Free Intake Session
I conduct a free intake session in response to interest or application from a new student (but prior to scheduling any sessions). This intake session usually takes 30-60 minutes and involves the guardian(s) and the student.
The purpose of the intake is:
- to discuss why tutoring is needed
- to review the details of tuition
- for me to get to know the student so I can best tailor future sessions to their needs.
- to allow the student to get any of their own questions or worries about tutoring addressed.

Tutoring Philosophy
Education is far more than a grade point average or rote memorization of a list. Instead, it is meant to be a constant, never-ending process of self-improvement and ever-increasing knowledge base. The goal of the instructors of any student should be to:
- give them a solid foundation of knowledge,
- help them learn how to acquire new knowledge, and
- teach them how to use said knowledge.
My hope is to create a love of learning, which cannot be achieved without working alongside the student to help them discover that love themselves.
Materials & Resources Used
I use resources from educational sites, books, and videos, as well as custom games and lessons. To get the full benefit of the online tutoring pages, free G-Suite apps (e.g., Gmail, YouTube, Google Classroom, Google Meet, and Google Drive) are the basic required software.
Methods
My method of tutoring is customized to each student for them to benefit from their sessions as best as they can, taking into account their goals, current knowledge levels, and learning styles. Any selected method is then constantly re-examined and adjusted as needed to keep the student engaged and learning.
I often “gamify” learning to keep students interested in the learning process while also using novelty to help with recall and understanding.
